Our 2012 tour Typically, our group of around 30 members is taken by coach to the airport from Budleigh Salterton or Topsham, and returns there afterwards. The tours feature carefully selected hotels and the services of an expert guide. The opportunity to gain some advanced knowledge of the venue is provided by one of the society's special interest days. We visit the main museums, galleries and other historic attractions of the destination, either locally on foot or by coach. Just as importantly we can enjoy spending leisure time with fellow members over evening meals or a glass of wine.

Was our 2011 trip to Jordan the best ever? Possibly: many thought so.

We will be travelling to Turkey in 2012. Monday 1 to Monday 8 October. Heritage Travel recommended travelling in October because by then it is to be hoped that the many cruise ships will have completed their visits. We start in Istanbul, the former capital of the Byzantine Empire and visit the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace Museum, the underground Cisterns, and many other places of interest, as shown in the flyer sent out with the summer newsletter.
After two days in Istanbul we travel to the Hellespont, the scene of 1914-1918 confrontation at Gallipoli, visit Anzac Cove, the Military Museum, and finish up in Cannakale, in a local restaurant. We then go back in time to the Greco Roman era, to visit Troy, Pergamon and Ephesus. By the time we finish our visit to the area, with a meal at the Kumkapi Fisherman Village, I feel that we will have had a real taste of the various cultures and entertainments on offer.
This will be a popular tour, so members should be sure to book early.
