In my role as the ExeDFAS Visits Secretary I try to stimulate interest in the decorative and fine arts by arranging pleasurable and informative day trips to those places of specific cultural interest members would not normally have access to in the general scheme of things. For instance we recently enjoyed a variety of private visits to nearby country houses such as the magnificent 15th century manor house at Athelhampton, Dorchester; Agatha Christies' summer home Greenway, Dartmouth; and a rare and privileged guided tour of the Prince of Wales' gardens at Highgrove.

This coming year I intend not only to continue along the same lines with upcoming expeditions planned to nearby Powderham Castle, the Museums of Bath and the sumptuous country home of the Earl and Countess of Arran at Castle Hill, South Molton; but also plan to venture further afield with our forthcoming 3-day excursion to Buxton in Derbyshire where we will be ideally situated to explore the great country houses of Chatsworth, Hardwick House and Haddon Hall in the daytime, and able to strengthen the bonds of fellowship by sharing what we have learned with like minded souls over a convivial dinner at night.  When we love something it is of value to us, and when something is of value to us we spend time with it, time enjoying and time appreciating it, and time discussing it with those who share our interests. I hope to give members such times this coming year.
