Church Trails What is a Church Trail? Click Here to see the NADFAS web page

Our first Church Trail was successfully launched on 19 May at St Michael and All Angels, Sowton, when schoolchildren aged between 7 and 11 from Clyst Honiton C of E Primary School arrived for a session that was quite a change from their usual 9am lesson. They were accompanied by form-mistress Hayley Champ and some parents, particularly to help with some of the children with special needs.

Our Young Arts Secretary Maggie Butt had liaised with the school to get them involved. Churchwarden Mike Fernbank of our church recording team, and ExeDFAS member Barbara Pentreath, had undertaken the work of constructing the trail and were present to oversee the launch.

The trail had previously been tested by a small group of tame children whose grand-parents were also involved with our church recording. Sometimes things that are obvious at the eye-level of an adult are not so obvious to a child but the few adjust-ments made after testing resulted in a trail that the children of Clyst Honiton Primary clearly found both
absorbing and rewarding - and a great change from the classroom!
