Joining ExeDFAS

If you would like to join or would like to become an affiliate, please refer to the Contact ExeDFAS  section of this website to send us an email giving your name and address and asking us to send you the appropriate application form.

Julie Horwood is ExeDFAS Membership Secretary.

Julie writes:

As Membership Secretary I am responsible for organising and maintaining the membership database which incorporates our 275 full members and those on our waiting list, and dealing with annual renewals.

Annual subscriptions (currently £35 per person per year) are due for renewal by the date of the AGM in June each year; renewal forms are sent to all members with AGM papers in April or May.  New members, when accepted, pay a £10 joining fee.

Each year our waiting list seems to grow, which, unfortunately, means a wait of a few years for some.  We welcome members transferring from other societies, but we do not accept multiple membership as this would be unfair to those still waiting for a place.  Preference is given to applicants within the local area - always provided that there is another society closer to an applicant's place of residence.

Members who join our Society automatically become members of our umbrella organisation NADFAS, which entitles members to a variety of benefits and savings nation-wide, as publicised in its quarterly NADFAS magazine.  The NADFAS national membership cards are sent out by us to our members with the Christmas Newsletter.  Further information about NADFAS and what is on offer can be seen on its website by clicking on the link at right.

My other responsibilities include registering attendance at the monthly lectures.  Those on the waiting list are welcome to attend these for a fee of £5.00 per person each time, while guests of members may attend up to four per year, at the same rate. All are requested to book a place, in advance, with me as there are restrictions on numbers, related to the capacity of the hall.

NADFAS AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP

You may be interested in Affiliate Membership of our 'umbrella' organisation, NADFAS.  This was set up to accommodate those who are interested  in the aims, ideals and activities of NADFAS, but who may not, for various reasons, be able to join and commit to a local society.  For just £10 per year, those who become Affiliate Members are entitled to receive the quarterly NADFAS Review magazine; to have access to some national events, study days and tours throughout the country, and occasional ticket offers and concessions at museums and galleries.

Most importantly, such membership allows you to take part in our society's volunteering activities: Church Recording, Heritage Volunteering and Young Arts, without having to become a full member of ExeDFAS.   We must stress, however, that such Affiliated Membership of NADFAS itself will not give you any entitlement to attendance at ExeDFAS events, or any priority on our waiting list.

To obtain an Affiliate Membership application form, please email ExeDFAS as described at the top left of this screen.
