As Membership Secretary I am responsible for organising and maintaining the membership data base which incorporates our 275 full members and those on our waiting list and dealing with annual renewals. Annual subscriptions (currently £30 per person per year) are due for renewal by the date of the AGM in June each year; renewal forms are sent to all members with AGM papers in April or May. When accepted, new members pay a £10 joining fee. Each year our waiting list seems to grow longer, which, unfortunately, means a wait of several years for some. We welcome members transferring from other societies, but we do not accept multiple membership as this would be unfair to those still waiting for a place. For the same reason we have established a catchment area for this society and preference is given to applicants within this area - always provided that there is another society closer to an applicant's place of residence. Members who join our group automatically become members of our umbrella organisation NADFAS, which entitles members to a variety of benefits and savings nation-wide, as publicised in the quarterly NADFAS magazine. NADFAS sends us national membership cards each autumn, which are sent out to our members with the Christmas Newsletter. NADFAS also offers an Affiliate Membership for those unable to join, or are waiting to join, a group. My other responsibilities include registering attendance at lectures. Visitors, guests and those on the waiting list are welcome to attend these for a fee of £5 per person, each time. All are requested to book, in advance, with me to secure a place, as there are restrictions on the number attending.
