"A fab day of Creative Arty Fun"

ExeDFAS brings Young Arts funding to young carers

In this society year in a departure from directing young arts funding to local schools,  ExeDFAS has set out to bring some artistic fun to young carers in our area.  These are young people aged from 5 to 12 years whose family circumstances thrust them into caring for disabled and elderly family members.

The result was "A fabday of Creative Arty Fun" attended by 10 youngsters at The Arches Youth Project in Sidmouth under the auspices of Liz McQuiston, East Devon Young Carers Lead Practioner. She says "The art day in November was a great chance for these young carers to let off steam and have fun .  .  .  a chance to meet other young people in similsr situations and to experience an activity appropriate to their age".  In bringing an art activity to them, ExeDFAS has, says Liz "Given a little bit of childhood back to these young carers".
